For making my R’n’B music magazine double page spread I looked at certain examples such as vibe magazine to help me and give me inspiration when creating mine, for example when looking at this double page spread I noticed that there was only one image which was blown up to fit on one page alone. I also realised with this particular vibe magazine that there were 3 columns of text on the second page rather than 2 columns. Another technique that I noticed was that there were a Vibe barcode on each double page spread that I researched. I also recognised that the questions were in bold so that it would stand out and not blend in with the other text. The only sign of colour on this page that stands out the most is the heading in red.

This is another double page spread that I was looking at to give me ideas from.
The first thing that I noticed was that 3 of the images were faded in the background maybe to show that they are less important than the one that is not faded. I will be challenging forms and conventions of real media products in many ways for example in double page spreads there aren’t normally 4 images unless they are in a group such as black eye peas. I will be inserting 4 different images of my artist Goldie. I also noticed that the main text was highlighted, bold, and in colour, I will use some of these techniques to develop in, in my double page spread.
I will use the following images of Goldie in my double page spread. I decided to use these images so that it could relate to my target audience. Bearing in mind that R’n’B is a genre that is quite seductive, sexy and fashionable I tried to make my artist fit in with this convention. [Picture][Picture]
I tried to take a variety of pictures of Goldie wearing different outfits and at least one different hairstyle by doing this I would of attracted the audience rather than just having the same pictures in the same clothes repeated which would be boring and would loose the audiences interest.
The theory of Berger ‘the ways of seeing’ definatly ties in with this concept for example if i had a old woman on my double page spread dressed like this then you wouldnt think that my genre would be RnB due to the typical conventions.
When creating my double page spread i had to write an article/ interview about my main artist which was Goldie. I had to think of some qusetions to ask Goldie which were relevant and neccessary. So I started to think of qusetions that people would ask me as i love singing myself, so here are just some of the questions I began to ask myself.
What are your goals for the future?
Which artist are you inspired by?
What age did you start singing?
Do you have any hobbies? If so what are they?
Where did you first perform?
Do you get nervous when you’re on stage?
After I had come up with some questions, more questions began to come to my mind which made it much more easier for me to interview her.
When designing my double page I first minipulated my 4 images. I did not feel the need to minipulate all my images to a certain extent. For example with all my images i either enlarged them, cropped them, or used the magic wand tool to erase parts of the background. At first i decided that my background was going to be white because all my other bakgrounds such as my front cover and contents page are white, so i wanted them to be all the same but my teacher said that the white background made it look like it was a gospel magazine rather than an R n B magazine, so i decided to keep the white background and change the font to orange to add a bit of colour but it still looked a little dull so then I decided to add a blue background but that meant i had to change the orange font due to the fact that it was not clear and it had kind of faided with the blue, so this is when I changed the orange font to pink which made it stand out even more.
After my interview was created and my images were ready and the colours were chosen, the only thing that was left was the postioning and layout. I decided that I was going to challenge forms and conventions by adding two pictures on one page which meant I would have four images all together.
I chose to make the writing of the questions that I were asking Goldie in bold and in Italics so that it would stand out from the rest of the text such as the answers. I also added www.angel.co.uk the web address of my magazine to remind the audience to have a look and even maybe subcribe to angel magazine. At the end of the interview i even said a special thanks to Goldie for letting Angel magazine interview her which made it seem real. Looking back at my preliminary task i feel i have really achieved so much knowledge in indesign and photoshop due to the fact that this was the first time i was introudeced to these programmes in college.
